Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun mentioned the giant brand’s product line strategy between the Mi and Redmi series on Weibo. In addition, CEO stated that customers will not be seeing successors to the “Mi Max” and “Mi Note” lines this year.
Xiaomi not planning new Mi Max and Mi Note phones this year
The CEO specified that the Mi brand will continue to focus on high-performance models incorporating the latest innovations like Xiaomi Mi 9, Xiaomi Mi Mix series and the upcoming CC lineup. On the other end of the spectrum, the Redmi brand will deliver cost-effective phones which offers all the essential features at a more affordable price.
The Mi Max series was popular for its large displays and battery endurance while the Mi Note was the Xiaomi’s upper mid-range line. The introduction of Redmi K20 lineup can be viewed as the spiritual successor to the Mi Note range but the absence of a large screen battery powerhouse like the Mi Max line does create a hole in the oversized phone category.
While Xiaomi has not officially discontinued the Max and Note lines the future does not look too positive. Either way, the brand might have some other plans for a tablet-sized phone next year…
